It’s officially been 6 months since Alex and I have gotten engaged and while we have settled on some rock-solid details, there are still some important aspects that are up in the air.
Now that we have finally settled down with moving, we have begun seriously thinking about venue locations and trying to decide the best way to go about a celebration of our engagement! A couple of venues we have looked at have been the Terranea in Playa Vista as well as the various locations at Calamigo’s ranch in Alex’s hometown and our current neighborhood, Malibu.
We absolutely fell in love with Calamigo’s Ranch as a venue! They have 4 separate venues on-site, The Birchwood Room, The Redwood Room, The The Oak Room, and The Pavillion.
Our favorite was by far the Oak Room. It has a stunning indoor reception area with an unbelievable window as well as a patio with an incredible waterfall that serves as the backdrop for your vows. It is truly a magnificent location and the second we walked in the door we were in awe!
If a beach vibe is more your style, the Terranea might be the best option for you. Their location for vows faces the Pacific ocean and is just ridiculously picturesque! Having grown up at the beach, it will always have a special place in my heart, but truthfully, I don’t know if it would be the best venue simply because of the wind! It was SO windy when we went!
Touring venues has definitely been an eye-opening experience. Whether you go with something rustic, beachy, or chic, I think its really important to try to actually physically visit the exact location you are considering. You never know what the actual vibe will be like just from pictures. If you are just starting to look into venues, my advice would be to use WeddingWire‘s Venue scouting tool to start getting an idea of where to visit! It has amazing functions like the ability to narrow your search by location, capacity, and availability, as well as indoor or outdoor and amenity options. (Amenities are particularly important because there are a million little things to consider for a venue, from lighting to furniture, and if you have a budget you want to meet, choosing a venue that has amenities on hand can save a lot of time, stress, and money!)
