A couple weeks ago, Alex made me the happiest girl in the world and became my fiancé! Since then, we have been traveling all over Europe and I’d be lying if I didn’t say life feels a bit like a dream right now. We just got the photos from the proposal and so I wanted to blog about it and to share the photos and video!
I’ve known for a while that Alex wanted to propose and overheard him talking about doing it in Europe on his birthday. I wanted to wait until next spring because that’s my favorite season, but Alex wanted to do it this year. He wanted the proposal to be extra special and we had been planning to go on a trip to Europe, so he decided to do it while we were abroad. Ever since my mom took me to Paris when I was young, I have knew I wanted to be proposed to at Monet’s Garden. I have always felt as though it is one of the most magical and beautiful places on Earth; where else can you look at a stunning painting and then go actively walk around the painting’s location in real life? It’s truly something. The gardens are beautiful and Monet’s paintings are breathtaking.
For the days leading up to the proposal, Alex was very emotional about our relationship. Every night we talked about how important we are to each other, what we want for the future, and how much we love one other. It was really nice to be ‘away from it all’ and have nothing to focus on but each other. I had no idea when he was going to do it, but the night before he made sure we went to sleep early (though he was up all night anyway 🙂 ).
The day of, he woke me up and told me to be ready by 7. He booked a private car to Giverny, as its far from Paris, and we picked up our lovely photographer, Molly, and videographer, my friend Diane, along the way. Once we got to Giverny, we went to a small cafe to wait until the Gardens where open.
At 9:15 we went into the gardens and started walking around, I had no idea where he was going to do it, but I thought he would be doing it at the famous bridge. So, as we were walking around the house and trellises, I thought we were just taking photos, but out of no where, Alex stepped back and dropped to one knee – it completely caught me off guard!
I started laughing and shaking because I was so excited! As he opened the box he said ‘I have waited so long to do this. I love you so much, will you marry me?’ He said it all so quickly, and so for a moment I just stood there staring at him wondering if he was going to keep going, I almost asked ‘are you done?’ before I realized he was and that I should respond saying, ‘Yes, of course!’ and he put the ring on my finger!
It’s so funny because I must have played this moment over and over in my head at least a thousand times, and yet it still took me entirely by surprise. It went so quickly and felt like such a blur (the whole thing happened in maybe under 20 seconds!) but was truly the most magical moment of my life, and the happiest day of our lives.
Since being engaged, not much has changed. Whenever I catch Alex looking down at my ring, it’s like he’s always known it would be there, it feels right. The biggest adjustment is that he keeps having to correct me when I refer to him as my boyfriend! After 3.5 years of calling him that, it’s funny to catch myself saying, ‘oops, I mean fiancé!’ The engagement-moon was lovely, and we are finally back in LA. He’s smiling at me across the table as we have a late lunch and truly life could not get any better.
Thank you Molly for the amazing photos and thank you Diane for the video! Every time we look at them we cry! You guys are the best and we’re so grateful to have had you there with us on this special day! <3
